Volunteer Call Out: Gifting

An exciting volunteer opportunity is available at Penrith Regional Gallery, Home of the Lewers Bequest during the Gifting exhibition from 7 September to 17 November. This opportunity will particularly suit people interested in art, culture and modernism. This is a dynamic role with the opportunity to engage visitors and maximise a positive experience for audiences.

Gifting brings together some great stories from New South Wales’ regional cultural history. By celebrating the highlights of these collection gifts we are expressing gratitude to the generosity of citizens who have had vision and insight into the immense benefit that regional art galleries afford a community.

Volunteers will be given the opportunity to:

  • Be an ambassador for Penrith Regional Gallery (PRG) and the larger Penrith Performing & Visual Arts (PP&VA), the region’s flagship cultural organisation
  • Gain an insight into Gifting exhibition themes
  • Get a behind the scenes look at working in a gallery
  • Be part of the welcoming Gallery team, providing hospitality to gallery visitors
  • Have the opportunity to secure a professional reference from PRG
  • Invitation to the Opening event

As part of the program we are looking for volunteers to:

  • Be available for a minimum of 8 hours across the exhibition period
  • Have a Working With Children Check (available online free for volunteers HERE)
  • Sign and adhere to a Code of Conduct (Penrith Performing & Visual Arts)
  • Be available for a two hour induction and training session on either Thursday 5 September from 3-5pm, OR Saturday 14 September 10am-12pm

As part of the role volunteers will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Hosting the exhibition space and welcoming visitors into the exhibition, as well as interacting with the general public as ambassador for the gallery and the exhibition
  • Invigilation duties including – being vigilant and mindful of the space and artworks in order to protect the works and interacting with the public to create an exciting but safe environment for people who view the exhibition
  • Record accurate exhibition visitor statistics
  • Asking visitors survey information questions

Applications close at midnight Tuesday 3 September 2019

Successful applicants will be notified by Wednesday 4 September 2019

Induction and training session on either Thursday 5 September from 3pm-5pm, OR Saturday 14 September 10am-12pm
